Moving can be very overwhelming and intimidating. It is one of the most stressful things we do in life. Here are 10 steps to make the process a little easier, and remove some of the headache.
1. A timeline will be a lifesaver for you. Stick to it, no matter what.
2. Choose a reputable moving company. You can check the AMSAs promover for a list of reputable movers.
3. Dont forget about the pets. They have special needs when it comes to moving, you just cant box them up and send them on the truck.
4. Don’t forget to transfer your phone service, cable/satellite service, prescriptions and utilities by the day of the move. Many people forget these basic necessities and find themselves trying to do it after the move and that causes weeks of confusion and potentially a lot of money.
5. Pack the items that you will need for the trip before the day of the move and have it separated from your other belongings. Dont forget that tooth brush.
6. Make sure to bring your cell phone with you. Also, give your cell number to your movers, so they can reach you with any questions or problems.
7. Remember your kids. Moving is hard on them, try and make it a little easier for them by packing toys or treats they can have during the trip. It may just make the transision and eventful day a little easier for them.
8. If you are packing your items yourself, be sure to use proper packing technique. If you don’t know how to pack, contact moving professionals to pack for you. You won’t regret it.
9. Try your best to relax! Moving can be stressful, but dwelling on mishaps will only make it more difficult. Little hiccups are bound to happen. Roll with it, find a solution when needed and move on.
10. Usually moving is a good thing. Either a promotion or upgrading to a nicer home- it won’t take long before you are settled into your new house and neighborhood. Be patient.
